Journeyman halfback Matt Frawley has announced his retirement from professional rugby league at the age of 30, drawing the curtain on a career that spanned both hemispheres and saw him serve as a reliable playmaker wherever he went.
Frawley made his NRL debut with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, featuring in 31 matches between 2017 and 2018. Known for his steady kicking game and organisational skills, he quickly established himself as a dependable squad member.
In 2019, Frawley crossed to England to join the Huddersfield Giants, where he played 22 games in the Super League. The stint gave him valuable experience as a starting half and broadened his reputation as a composed game manager.
Frawley returned to Australia in 2020, signing with the Canberra Raiders. Used primarily as a backup for Jamal Fogarty and other first-choice halves, he made 22 appearances across four seasons (2020–2023). His professionalism and ability to step in when needed earned him respect among teammates and coaches alike.
In 2024, Frawley headed back to England with Leeds Rhinos, where he enjoyed a busy year, playing 32 matches. In 2025, he was loaned to his former club, Huddersfield Giants, to provide depth in the halves.
After more than 100 professional matches across the NRL and Super League, Frawley announced that 2025 would be his final season. While never a headline-grabbing star, his career is a testament to perseverance, adaptability, and seizing opportunities across two continents.
