Match Preview
The big brother of Queensland rugby league, the Brisbane Broncos, play host to the Gold Coast Titans in a Saturday night affair, as they both look to claw their way up the ladder.
Both sides have been in a slump as of late and find themselves outside of the top eight, with the Broncos winning two of their last seven games, and winning their most recent clash against their upcoming opponents, while the Titans have claimed victory in one of their last seven.
The Broncos have been forced into a reshuffle, with Gehamat Shibasaki and Patrick Carrigan to miss the clash due to injury and Ezra Mam reverting back to the bench, with Grant Anderson and Thomas Duffy joining the starting side, while Aublix Tawha joins the bench. The Titans welcomed back the Maroons’ contingent of Jojo Fifita and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui as the visitors desperately chase victory over their more fancied rivals.
The battle of the young fullbacks could be the deciding factor as Reece Walsh and Keano Kini look to carry the fortunes of their side come game day. Both livewires will be eager to stamp their mark on this clash through their combination of speed, agility, and the ability to break a game wide open. Expect to see plenty of the respective number ones sniffing around the ruck and looking to latch onto an offload from a member of one of the talented forward packs.
Speaking of talented forward packs, State of Origin bookends Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and Payne Haas get the chance to go one-on-one. Haas and Tino are both capable of leaving defensive lines in tatters with a powerful carry and their late footwork at the line. If either forward is able to poke their noses through and get an arm free to get an offload away, it could quickly turn into points for their side.
The Broncos have had the better of their match ups against the Titans, having won seven of the last 10 clashes, and it doesn’t get any better for the Titans in the long run, having won just 13 of the 40 clashes.
