Melbourne Storm have received a major boost ahead of the NRL finals with star winger Xavier Coates re-signing with the club until the end of the 2027 season.

The dual Australian and Papua New Guinea international has already carved out a strong reputation as one of the game’s most talented finishers. Coates has featured in 105 NRL matches to date, scoring an impressive 78 tries.

Renowned for his aerial ability and knack for turning half-chances into points, the 24-year-old has been a key figure for Craig Bellamy’s side in recent years. His re-signing provides stability and strike power for the Storm as they prepare for a finals campaign that kicks off on Friday night against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at AAMI Park.

Coates first emerged with the Brisbane Broncos before joining the Storm in 2022, where he has become one of the most reliable wingers in the competition. His blend of athleticism, finishing ability and big-game temperament has seen him cement his place in the Storm’s backline and earn representative honours.

This extension ensures Storm fans will continue to see him in purple through at least the next three seasons, a move widely regarded as a win for both the club and player.
