Cronulla have moved to secure a key piece of their future, with Jesse Colquhoun re-signing with the Sharks until the end of 2030.
The new deal is a significant show of faith in the 24-year-old forward, who has steadily developed into a reliable member of Craig Fitzgibbon’s pack. Since making his NRL debut in 2022, Colquhoun has now played 29 top-grade matches, with 18 of those appearances coming last season as his role within the squad continued to grow.
Colquhoun’s progression has been one of the quieter success stories at the Sharks. Originally viewed as depth, he has earned increased opportunities through consistent performances, strong work ethic and an ability to handle the physical demands of NRL football. His retention reflects Cronulla’s intent to reward development from within as they shape their long-term roster.
Importantly, the extension places Colquhoun among a very select group at the club. He and Jayden Brailey are currently the only two Sharks forwards contracted into the next decade, underlining just how highly the club values his trajectory.
With Cronulla eyeing sustained success over the coming years, locking away emerging talent has become a priority. Colquhoun’s extension ensures the Sharks retain continuity in the middle of the field, while giving the young forward the security to continue his rise in the NRL.
As the Sharks balance experience with youth, this deal could prove a smart piece of long-term business — one that may look even better as Colquhoun’s best football could pay dividends as Colquhoun’s best football still lies ahead.
