Australia coach Kevin Walters has unveiled his Kangaroos team for the opening Test of the 2025 Ashes series against England, to be played at Wembley Stadium this Saturday, October 25.
It’s a side that blends experience with exciting new talent, as four debutants have earned the call-up: Reece Walsh, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Gehamat Shibasaki, and Keaon Koloamatangi. All four have been rewarded for their standout domestic seasons and now have the chance to wear the green and gold on one of rugby league’s biggest stages.
Walters, who represented the Kangaroos on two Ashes tours during his playing days, said he couldn’t wait to see the new faces take the field.
“It’s going to be a huge thrill for all four of them to wear the green and gold for the first time in a Test match at such an iconic stadium,” Walters said.
“I’m excited for them as well as all of our players. Every member of our squad, whether they take the field or not, is about to experience something incredibly special this Saturday at Wembley.”
The Kangaroos have been based in London for over a week, holding intense field, gym and recovery sessions as they fine-tune preparations for the first Rugby League Ashes series in 22 years.
The build-up will reach another level today when both nations come together at Wembley for the official Ashes launch, as excitement continues to surge. Ticket sales for the opener have already reached 54,569, matching the attendance from the classic 1990 first Test at the same venue.
