The Perth Bears have continued building their inaugural 2027 squad, signing forward Mavrik Geyer on a two-year deal starting next season.

Player Background

Mavrik Geyer, 25, is the son of Western Reds legend Mark Geyer, who played 33 first-grade games for the club between 1995-97. A member of the 2024 Penrith Panthers premiership-winning squad, Mavrik will follow in his father’s footsteps by representing Western Australia. He made his NRL debut in March 2024 and has so far played 16 first-grade games across stints with Penrith and the Wests Tigers.

Current Form & Impact

Strong and mobile, Geyer is capable of playing in the middle or on an edge. His versatility, work rate in attack and defence, and professionalism have made him a valuable squad member wherever he has played.

Why It Matters for the Perth Bears

This signing adds depth and experience to Mal Meninga’s growing roster ahead of the Bears’ entry into the NRL in 2027. Geyer becomes another high-character player committed to the expansion project.

Mavrik said: “It’s a pretty special moment for our family to have the chance to represent the Bears in their first season. Dad loved his time in Perth, and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to represent the proud people of Western Australia.”

Perth Bears Head Coach Mal Meninga added: “Mav works very hard in both attack and defence and I’m excited to see what he can bring to our squad. He is effective in the middle and on the edge. He will make an immediate impact.”
