The Wests Tigers have locked in two key forwards, with Alex Twal and Sione Fainu both re-signing through to the end of the 2029 NRL season.
The dual extensions provide stability in the middle of the park as Benji Marshall’s side looks to build on clear signs of progress shown in 2025.
Twal Commits as Form Peaks
Alex Twal, 29, was already contracted for 2026, but the new deal ensures he remains at Concord for the long term as one of the club’s most experienced leaders.
Now sitting on 165 NRL appearances, Twal is enjoying arguably the best form of his career, anchoring the Tigers’ pack with consistency and professionalism during a period of steady improvement.
His strong performances also come at the perfect time on the international stage, with Twal expected to play a key role for Lebanon at the upcoming Rugby League World Cup in October and November.
For a Tigers side looking to transition from rebuilding to contending, retaining a durable and in-form middle forward was a priority.
Fainu Future Secured
Meanwhile, the Tigers have also secured the future of Sione Fainu, with the 24-year-old forward committing until 2029.
Fainu made his NRL debut during the 2024 Magic Round clash against the Dolphins and has since gone on to make 36 first-grade appearances, quickly establishing himself as a regular contributor in the forward rotation.
The extension further strengthens the Tigers’ family ties, with brothers Samuela and Latu Fainu also part of the club’s 2026 squad, giving the club a unique long-term foundation built around emerging talent.
Tigers Trending Up
Under Benji Marshall in 2025, the Tigers recorded nine wins — their highest tally since the COVID-impacted 2020 season, and their best full-season return since winning 11 games in 2019.
With roster continuity improving and youth developing alongside experienced leaders, there is growing belief the club could push for its first finals appearance since 2011.
By locking in Twal and Fainu until 2029, the Tigers have sent a clear message — the rebuild phase is shifting toward sustained growth.
