Wests Tigers lock in Benji Marshall on long-term deal through 2030
Wests Tigers have doubled down on their long-term vision, securing head coach Benji Marshall on a contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2030 NRL season.
The bold move comes at a turbulent time for the organisation, with CEO Shane Richardson departing earlier this week following ongoing board instability. Despite the off-field uncertainty, Tigers management have moved swiftly to reinforce the club’s coaching future, backing Marshall as the centrepiece of their rebuild.
Marshall has completed two seasons at the helm since taking full control of the coaching reins in 2024. Across his 48 matches in charge, the Tigers have recorded 15 wins—including nine victories in 2025 as the club finished 13th on the ladder.
While results have been mixed, the Tigers have remained committed to the long-term “Benji Plan,” centred on development pathways, roster renewal, and a shift toward a more expansive style of football. Club powerbrokers believe the foundations laid in 2024–25 will begin to pay dividends across the next several seasons.
Marshall’s extended tenure provides much-needed stability as the Tigers continue to wrestle with front-office changes and roster turnover. The move signals that, despite recent turmoil, the club remains firmly invested in the direction laid out when Marshall was appointed as the future of the franchise back in 2023.
With the coaching position now locked in for the next five years, attention will turn to recruitment, player retention, and whether the Tigers can convert incremental improvement into a genuine climb up the ladder.
