A Grand Final with no Big Three — and no previous Super League champion

Old Trafford has never seen a night quite like this. On Saturday, Warrington Wolves and Wakefield Trinity contest the 2026 Super League Grand Final without Leeds, Saints or Wigan in the building, and without a Super League title between them.

Warrington know the stage and the heartbreak: four Grand Finals, zero wins, last English champions in 1955. Wakefield have never been here. Their last championship was 1968. One of them will become the sixth name on the Super League trophy, a year after Hull KR finally broke the old order.

Trinity’s route was the shock of the decade: 33–6 away at League Leaders and Cup winners Wigan. The Wolves did it the hard way too, a 14–12 grind at Headingley. For the second time in Super League history, the top two are watching from home.

Before kick-off, Kevin Sinfield completes his 7-in-7 challenge, carries the ball onto the pitch for his son’s Wakefield side, and later presents the trophy. Then 80 minutes decide whether Warrington’s wait ends — or Wakefield write the rarest story of all.

Kick-off 6pm, Old Trafford.
