3. Toronto set to be saved from relegation
Breathe easy worldwide Toronto Wolfpack fans. Super League CEO Robert Elstone this week revealed that it’s unlikely at this stage there will be any clubs relegated thanks to the competition being suspended.
“My belief very strongly is if all those conditions and uncertainties and compromise applies to Super League, such that it’s unrealistic and unfair to relegate, then for me, that has to be mirrored into the Championship.”, Elstone told the Sky Sports Golden Point vodcast.
Unlike in the National Rugby League, where they are working towards a restart, Super League has its complications with the United Kingdom and France at the heart of COVID-19 in Europe.
That’s on top of Toronto Wolfpack’s situation, and whether borders will be opened for international travel any time soon, which will determine whether the Super League season continues.
The Wolfpack’s predicament is unlike the New Zealand Warriors, where it appears travel between Australia and New Zealand may be lifted soon as a ‘Trans-Tasman bubble’ is created between the two nations.
