The Cronulla Sharks have secured the signature of English international forward Owen Trout, who will join the club on a two-year deal starting in 2027.

The 26-year-old loose forward/second-rower from the Leigh Leopards brings significant Super League experience and international pedigree to the Sharks’ forward pack as they continue building for the future under coach Craig Fitzgibbon.

England International Pedigree

Trout made his senior debut for England in the 2025 Ashes series against Australia, coming off the bench at Wembley Stadium. His selection highlighted a rapid rise in the English game after consistent performances for Leigh Leopards.

Super League Standout

With more than 100 Super League appearances, Trout has established himself as a reliable middle-forward known for his high work rate, strong defence, and ability to play across prop, second-row, and lock. He played a key role in Leigh’s finals campaign last season.

Strategic Signing for the Sharks

The move comes in the same week that head coach Craig Fitzgibbon was re-signed through to the end of 2029, signalling long-term stability at the club.

Trout’s arrival provides valuable depth and competition in the middle as the Sharks navigate a busy off-contract period at the end of 2026, with several key players including Cameron McInnes, Jesse Ramien, Sione Katoa, Toby Rudolf, and William Kennedy heading into contract year.

What Trout Brings to Cronulla

  • Proven durability and consistency in a tough Super League competition
  • International experience against top-tier opposition
  • Versatility across the forward pack

This signing marks the Sharks’ first English import in nearly 50 years and continues their strategy of adding experienced overseas talent to complement their young squad.
