What Happens Next

Players charged by the NRL Match Review Committee will now decide whether to:

  • accept the early guilty plea and associated penalty, or
  • challenge the charge at the NRL Judiciary panel.

Any hearings will take place ahead of Round 24, with Fonua-Blake currently the only player facing suspension from Sunday’s charges.

  • Seven charges were issued from Saturday’s Round 23 matches
  • No players are currently facing suspension following the amendment of Cameron Munster’s charge
  • Cameron Munster’s Dangerous Contact charge was downgraded from Grade 2 to Grade 1
  • Broncos players Patrick Carrigan and Kotoni Staggs were both cited by the Match Review Committee

Cameron Munster Charge Downgraded

The Match Review Committee also confirmed an amendment to Cameron Munster’s charge from Saturday’s Round 23 fixtures.

Munster was initially charged with a Grade 2 Dangerous Contact offence, carrying a one-match suspension with an early guilty plea.

However, following the receipt of further medical information regarding the injured player, the Match Review Committee reviewed the incident under Rule 61 of the NRL Judiciary Code and issued an amended Notice of Charge.

The updated medical report materially altered the nature and extent of the injury initially relied upon when the charge was graded.

As a result, Munster’s charge has been downgraded to Grade 1 Dangerous Contact, reducing the penalty to a financial sanction only.

Amended Early Plea: $1,000 fine
Amended Panel Penalty: $1,500 fine

The downgrade means no players from Saturday’s Round 23 fixtures are currently facing suspension.
