Match Preview

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs travel north to face the Dolphins in a compelling Thursday night clash, with the Bulldogs desperate to find hope in a season that looks like it’s dwindling away.

The Bulldogs have shown little improvement in recent weeks, with their once-tough defensive edge and structured attacking spine now looking a shadow of their 2025 form.

Much of their direction has come through the ever-trying Lachlan Galvin, but points simply aren’t coming easily, with consistency remaining their biggest challenge.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, have turned their home ground into a genuine advantage. Their speed through the middle and ability to offload has troubled several teams this season. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow looms as a constant threat in broken play, while Isaiya Katoa provides composure in key moments, and Trai Fuller off the bench has been very handy.

This match-up could be decided through the middle third. If the Bulldogs can control possession and limit second-phase play, they’ll go a long way towards silencing the Dolphins’ attacking rhythm. However, if fatigue creeps in, the Dolphins’ speed around the ruck could prove decisive—and that’s the big thing the Bulldogs lack: speed.

Another key factor will be discipline. Both sides have shown a tendency to concede penalties at crucial times, and in what shapes as a tight contest, field position will be critical.

While Canterbury won the first two meetings in 2023 and 2024, the Dolphins claimed a 44–8 victory last season, kicking off a high-scoring run in which they also put 50 on St George Illawarra, North Queensland, and South Sydney.

Prediction

RLZ Tip: Dolphins by 16.
Bold call: While the Bulldogs will stay in the fight, the Dolphins’ attacking spark at home will prove the difference.
