Storm secure their captain and No. 9 for the long term
The Melbourne Storm have delivered one of the most important retention pieces of their current roster build, with captain Harry Grant re-signing with the club until the end of the 2028 NRL season.
The 27-year-old Australian international has become the face of Melbourne’s post-Cameron Smith era, amassing 105 NRL games for the Storm since debuting and evolving into one of the game’s premier dummy-halves.
Grant’s journey included a pivotal loan stint at the Wests Tigers in 2020, where he played 15 games and quickly became one of the standout performers of that disrupted season. The opportunity came after he found himself third in the hooking pecking order behind Cameron Smith and Brandon Smith — a situation that ultimately accelerated his rise.
Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy and the club’s football department have been clear: re-signing Grant was a non-negotiable priority as they attempt to bring the Premiership trophy back to AAMI Park for the first time since 2020.
The Storm have fallen short in several finals campaigns since then, but Grant’s leadership, creativity around the ruck, and unmatched work rate are seen as central pillars of their push to finally snap a six-year premiership drought in 2026.
With a maturing spine, emerging talent in key positions, and Grant locked in long-term, Melbourne enter the upcoming season with renewed belief that the window is very much open.
