Match Preview
There are multiple changes for both sides, with Brian Kelly and Jojo Fifita returning from injury for the Titans. Phillip Sami slides out to the wing, while Beau Fermor returns to the second row, pushing Josh Patson back to the bench. Jaimin Jolliffe is out for the season, so Reagan Campbell-Gillard will start at prop. Klese Haas returns on the bench after missing last week due to personal reasons.
The Warriors receive a boost with Kurt Capewell, Te Maire Martin, and Rocco Berry all back from injury. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad will move back to fullback, pushing Taine Tuaupiki to 18th man. Leka Halasima drops back to the bench to make way for Capewell, while Demitric Vaimauga will start at prop with Jackson Ford out suspended.
The Titans are staring down the barrel of another wooden spoon after suffering a heavy 54-22 loss to the Sharks last week. They now sit one win behind the Knights in 16th, but the Gold Coast will take plenty of confidence into this clash as it was only one month ago that they produced a stunning upset over the Warriors in New Zealand.
The Warriors have been fading in the back end of the season, but an important win 14-10 over the Dragons last week saw them return to the top four. However, the Panthers, Broncos, and Sharks are nipping at their heels, and if the Warriors want to remain inside the top four at the end of the regular season, this is a match they simply have to win.
Recent history is also in favour of the Titans here, having won six of their last seven games against the Warriors, while the Warriors have struggled at Cbus Super Stadium, having won only one of their last five games at the venue.
The Warriors need their halves to step up, with the injury to Luke Metcalf being a big turning point for their season. If Tanah Boyd and Chanel Harris-Tavita can get their side on the front foot early on the back of James Fisher-Harris and co. in the forward line, and Martin is able to provide spark off the bench, they should be too strong.
Don’t be surprised, though, if the Titans pull off another upset.
