Match Preview
The Panthers come into this clash on the back of seven straight wins as they continue their charge towards an unlikely top four finish. In the only change for the defending premiers, Liam Martin will once again start after coming off the bench in his return from injury last week, with Isaiah Papali’i dropping back to the interchange.
It’s been an impressive turnaround for the Panthers, who sat dead last following their round 12 loss to the Knights in Bathurst. Now, Penrith is currently in fifth position, just three points outside the top four when even a finals berth looked almost impossible just two months ago. Defence continues to be the catalyst for this season revival, conceding just 70 points across their last seven games.
For the Titans, they should be filled with confidence after their upset win over the Warriors in New Zealand last week. Sam Verrills is back in the side at hooker, with Chris Randall dropping out after copping a concussion last week. Tom Weaver has been named on the bench in place of the suspended Sean Mullany.
Last week’s victory got the Titans out of last place, but they will need to step up even more if they want to make it two wins in a row. They remain on just five wins for the season, but at their best can boast plenty of firepower through the likes of Jayden Campbell and AJ Brimson.
After a disappointing Origin campaign, Nathan Cleary has slowly been returning to his best form once again, but perhaps even more threatening to the rest of the competition is the current work of Dylan Edwards. The star fullback has been on a rampage over his last three matches, averaging over 300 run metres throughout that span, while also adding three tries, three linebreaks, and two try assists.
Recent history favours the Panthers, with the Titans having won just one of the past 11 matches between the two sides. That trend should continue this weekend.
