The South Sydney Rabbitohs have confirmed the signing of David Fifita on a two-year contract, securing the representative forward until the end of the 2027 NRL season.
The move ends speculation over Fifita’s future following reports of his potential departure from the Gold Coast Titans, where he has played since 2021. In 2023, it was reported that Fifita had been tabled a lucrative three-year offer by the Canberra Raiders, but that deal never materialised.
An ankle injury restricted the 25-year-old to just eight matches this season, but his power, pace and line-breaking ability have made him one of the game’s most dynamic forwards since debuting in 2018.
Fifita reunites with Wayne Bennett, who coached him during his early days at the Brisbane Broncos. Bennett handed Fifita his NRL debut in 2018, and the pair will link up again under the Rabbitohs banner as the club looks to rebuild its forward pack for 2026 and beyond.
Fifita has played 134 NRL games to date across stints with Brisbane and Gold Coast, scoring 50 tries and representing both Queensland in State of Origin and Tonga internationally.
The signing is viewed as a major coup for South Sydney, adding strike and experience to their edge as they prepare for a new era under Bennett’s return.
