England Head Coach Shaun Wane has named his 19-player squad for the Final Beer Rugby League Ashes Test against Australia, to be played at AMT Headingley Stadium on Saturday, November 8 (2:30pm kick-off).
With the Kangaroos having already secured the series following wins at Wembley and Everton, Wane’s men are now aiming to avoid a whitewash and finish on a high in front of a sold-out Leeds crowd.
Joe Burgess returns to the international arena for the first time in a decade after a standout year in Hull KR’s treble-winning 2025 campaign. The 31-year-old winger replaces Dom Young, who suffered a broken foot in last Saturday’s defeat. Burgess last featured for England in the 2015 series victory over New Zealand.
Harry Newman also returns, set to play on his home ground at Headingley. The Leeds Rhinos centre last appeared for England during the 2024 series win over Samoa, also at this venue.
Veteran Kallum Watkins, fresh off his 30th Test cap, and Mikolaj Oledzki retain their places, meaning Leeds will have three representatives in the squad for the final Test. John Bateman remains unavailable through injury.
“Of course we are disappointed not to be going into this final game with the opportunity to win the Ashes, but the goal now is to come away from the series with a victory,” Wane said.
“We did a lot of good things last week but ultimately, we need to be even better if we want to get a win this weekend.
“It will be great to see Joe Burgess and Harry Newman in action. Joe has had a great season with Hull KR and Harry has been a consistent performer for me in an England jersey. I’ve no doubt the England supporters will get behind us once more and hopefully we can give them something to celebrate come Saturday evening.”
