Match Preview
Sunday afternoon footy travels to Campbelltown in Round 6, as the Tigers host the Knights in one of the games of the round. No one could have predicted this clash would be between two sides sitting in the top three after five rounds.
The Tigers are riding high after an unlikely win over the Warriors in New Zealand, followed by a dramatic Golden Point win over the Eels on Easter Monday. The Knights, meanwhile, have found their attacking flair after back-to-back wins against the Bulldogs and Raiders.
For the Tigers, only one change to their starting team with Jeral Skelton replacing the suspended Luke Laulilii on the wing. Patrick Herbert joins the 19-man squad.
For the Knights, also only one change with Bradman Best out with a groin strain. Wilson De Courcey replaces him at centre and Cody Hopwood joins the 19-man squad.
The key to a Tigers win will be getting plenty of ball to Kai Pearce-Paul. He showed on Easter Monday against the Eels he’s got the talent to turn the game on his own. Going up against his former team is another reason Pearce-Paul will be fired up for a big game. His combination on the right edge with Adam Doueihi is going from strength to strength. With Best missing from the Knights’ left edge, look for the Tigers to gravitate towards Pearce-Paul and target that side in attack.
On the flip side, the key for the Knights will be Dom Young and Dane Gagai attacking the shaky Tigers left edge. Dom Young has been on a try-scoring tear this year, scoring eight tries across the first five games. Couple that with the Tigers’ left edge, who are prone to leaking early points, and both Young and Gagai could be in for big days. If the Knights can get out to an early lead, they’ll need to be wary of a bounce back. The Tigers have managed to wrestle back momentum well in each game they’ve played this year.
The Knights have won seven of their past eight games against the Tigers, while the Tigers are riding a five-game losing streak at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.
Prediction
RLZ Tip: Tigers by 4
Bold call: Young scores a hat-trick, but Doueihi scores the match-winning try for the Tigers.
