The Perth Bears have added young talent to their roster, signing promising fullback Mason Barber on a three-year deal from 2027.

Mason Barber, 20, is a Keebra Park State High School product — the same famous nursery that has produced stars including Benji Marshall, Reece Walsh, David Fifita and Jai Arrow. Currently part of the North Queensland Cowboys system, Barber is yet to make his NRL debut but has been gaining valuable experience in the Queensland Cup.
Current Form & Impact
In 2026, the dynamic fullback has played 10 matches for the Mackay Cutters in the HostPlus Cup, scoring 1 try. Known for his speed, attacking flair and strong aerial game, Barber represents the type of exciting young talent the Bears are targeting as they build their inaugural squad.
Why It Matters for the Perth Bears
This signing continues Mal Meninga’s recruitment drive as the expansion club prepares for its entry into the NRL in 2027. Barber joins an already impressive list of contracted players, adding depth and long-term potential in the outside backs.
Current Perth Bears Squad (by contract end date):

- Liam Henry, Sean Russell – until end of 2030
- Josh Curran, Nick Meaney, Siosifa Talakai, Mikolaj Oledzki, Apa Twidle, Mason Barber – until end of 2029
