Rising Rabbitoh Locks in Long-Term Future with Souths
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have secured one of their most exciting young talents, with electric fullback Jye Gray re-signing with the club until the end of 2029.
The 21-year-old quickly became a fan favourite in 2025, stepping confidently into the No.1 jersey during Latrell Mitchell’s extended absence. His speed, footwork, and instinctive support play transformed South Sydney’s attack, helping stabilise the side during an otherwise turbulent campaign.
Gray’s re-signing is a clear win for the Rabbitohs, especially after the highly publicised recruitment push from the new R360 league, who were also rumoured to have targeted Ryan Papenhuyzen and Zac Lomax. Their pursuit of Gray has now officially fallen short.
A product of South Sydney’s development pathway, Gray made his debut in Round 6, 2024 against the Cronulla Sharks at Accor Stadium. Despite his small stature, he has quickly proven he belongs at NRL level, amassing 32 appearances and 12 tries in his first two seasons.
With his long-term future settled, Gray shapes as a crucial part of the Rabbitohs’ next era, providing stability and spark in the backline as the club continues to evolve its spine around young playmakers.
South Sydney officials described the retention as a “priority signing” and a reflection of the club’s belief in the young fullback’s future potential.
