MATCHDAY PREVIEW

The first ever Wigan versus St Helens women’s derby at Wembley. History will be made on the 7th of June as Wigan could win their first ever Women’s Challenge Cup or St Helens could win their fifth Challenge Cup in a row, that would be the most won in a row since Thatto Heath Crusaders won four in row before being bought by the Red Vee.

Wigan coach Denis Betts has named an unchanged 21 from last weekend, where they won 34-12 against Leeds Rhinos at AMT Headingley in round 3 of the Women’s Super League.

Rease Casey, Jade Gregory-Haselden, Mia-Jayne Atherton and Tiana Power could come into Betts’ side at Wembley, having missed out on the matchday 17 last time out.

Saints have named a strong 21 with only two changes from the narrow 16-12 win against Super League Champions York Valkyrie. Vicky Whitfield and Alyx Bridge come back into the fold, with Erin McDonald and Hollie Bawden missing out.

Wigan have had a brilliant start to the season, beating York, London Broncos, Cardiff Demons and Leeds and Barrow twice.

St Helens have beaten the same teams as Wigan but haven’t played Barrow as of yet but have played and beaten Huddersfield Giants at Laund Hill.

Wigan have started the season better, but St Helens are the only women’s team to win at Wembley and that won’t change after Saturday.
