Katie Mottershead replied with a try to put a little pressure on the Warriors but then 18 unanswered points took Wigan to their first honour since 2018.
2025 Challenge Cup Final
Warrington Wolves 6-8 Hull Kingston Rovers
WARRINGTON WOLVES TRIES: Josh Thewlis (39′)
WARRINGTON WOLVES GOALS: Marc Sneyd
HULL KR TRIES: Tom Davies (77′)
HULL KR GOALS: Mikey Lewis x2
Player of the Match: Marc Sneyd
Hull KR won their first trophy since 1985 and their first Challenge Cup since 1980 in a close fought Challenge Cup Final against Warrington Wolves. This was a very defensive final with the weather conditions playing a part in the latter stages. KR opened the scoring with a converted penalty but just before half time, a Marc Sneyd kick deflected into the path of Josh Thewlis to give the Wolves the lead going into the break. The second half did not have much action, but Sneyd showed his skills with an impressive 20/40 to get Warrington out of the pressure cooker they were in. The entire game changed as an attacking KR kick wasn’t dealt with, and Tom Davies grounded the ball in the correct manner to put his side in kicking distance of the Challenge Cup. Mikey Lewis put the kick over to take his side to the top of the podium for the first time in a long time.
2025 1895 Cup Final
Featherstone Rovers 4-5 York Knights (Golden Point)
FEATHERSTONE ROVERS GOALS: Ben Reynolds x2 (12′, 61′)
YORK KNIGHTS GOALS: Liam Harris x2 (29′, 40′)
YORK KNIGHTS DROP GOAL: Harris x1 (85′)
Player of the Match: Liam Harris
York Knights lifted the 1895 Cup for the first time as they edged Championship rivals Featherstone Rovers in golden-point extra time in the final game of the Finals day. It was a physical final that saw the sides fail to break each other down in the traditional sense. York took control of a physical first half, levelling through the boot of Harris before the scrum-half kicked a long-range second penalty as the hooter blew for half-time. Ben Reynolds scored another penalty to draw level in the 61st minute. The sides couldn’t be separated after 80 minutes and Harris slotted a 35-metre drop-goal in the fifth minute of added time to spark celebrations for the Knights.
