MATCHDAY PREVIEW
Matt Peet has made one change from the round seven win away to Hull KR as Taylor Kerr comes into the squad for Harvey Makin who has been sent on loan to struggling Salford Red Devils for a month.
The Warriors are still without key props Luke Thompson (calf) and Ethan Havard (hamstring) as well as goal-kicking centre Adam Keighran (MCL).
Head Coach Peet knows the history of this fixture and hopes to be on “the right side of the result”.
He told the Media on Monday, “Mutual respect comes with the rivalry and the history. In these games you win some and you lose some, but we’re both better off having the opposition. A lot of the best moments from each other’s histories have involved the other team, and there’s still healthy fear in knowing what the other team is capable of. You just hope to be on the right side of the result.”
Paul Wellens made three changes to the 20-man squad that beat Wakefield last weekend. The Saints are back to the full 21 contingent as Mark Percival, Daryl Clark and Ben Davies are available for the short trip over to Wigan. James Bell and Harry Robertson both miss out on the derby with injuries.
Wellens touched on how important this game is and how the Warriors cannot be overlooked.
He told Saints TV, “Coming up against the Champions you always have to be aware of the threats they pose, and Paul said that he feels their collectiveness as a team is their biggest threat along with their strike players like Jai Field, Bevan French, and Junior Nsemba.”
Wigan will be looking to put pressure on Hull KR after the win last week and with the last three Good Friday clashes going to the home side, the Warriors look like they will take home the two points over Easter Weekend.
