Match Preview

Tolu Koula’s injury has forced a change for the Sea Eagles, with Clayton Faulalo starting in the centres in his place, while Joey Walsh will make his NRL debut off the bench. There will also be another change coming as Toafofoa Sipley has copped a four-game suspension on a Grade 2 Dangerous Contact charge.

For the Warriors, Wayde Egan is out with a hip injury so Samuel Healey has been named to start at hooker in his place.

There’s plenty to play for in this clash, with the Sea Eagles needing a massive win (and other results to go their way) to keep their slim finals hopes alive. The Warriors, on the other hand, can still lock in a top four finish with a win, as long as the Broncos lose to the Storm on Thursday night, and the Sharks go down to the Bulldogs in a big Saturday night battle.

The Warriors have been down on form in recent weeks, losing four of their past six matches, and they simply need to win this game to get some much-needed momentum heading into their second finals series in three years. Their season has struggled ever since the injury to Luke Metcalf, so it will be on Chanel Harris-Tavita and Tanah Boyd to lead the way in the halves, with Te Maire Martin providing the spark off the bench.

For Manly, while a finals berth is highly unlikely, they still have plenty to play for in what should be Daly Cherry-Evans’ last game for the club. The champion halfback has played over 350 games for the Sea Eagles, and led them to a premiership in 2011 and another grand final in 2013. There’s no doubt he will be giving his all in this game and his teammates will want to send him out a winner.

These two sides met all the way back in round 2, the Warriors walking away with a 36-16 win in New Zealand, but they have struggled at 4 Pines Park in recent times, having won only one of their past six games at the venue.
