Wakefield Trinity have announced that winger Lachlan Walmsley has signed a new one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club through the end of the 2026 Super League season. The 27-year-old has been a standout performer since joining Trinity from Halifax Panthers in late 2023.

Walmsley’s journey from part-time rugby to Super League success is remarkable. He left his job as a brick labourer in Halifax to pursue full-time rugby with Wakefield, a move that has paid dividends. His athleticism and try-scoring ability have made him a key figure in Trinity’s backline. In the 2025 season, he has contributed significantly to the team’s performance, including a notable display during the Magic Weekend victory over Castleford Tigers.

Walmsley’s re-signing is part of Wakefield’s broader strategy to build a competitive squad for the future. Earlier this week the club extended Josh Rourke‘s contract until the end of 2027 and recently acquired Jazz Tevaga for 2026.

Head coach Daryl Powell expressed his satisfaction with Walmsley’s commitment, stating, “He has improved in all the key areas in his game which is always great to see as a coach. He also fits perfectly into the group as a character and person. He’s a pleasure to coach and I’m delighted he agreed to stay with the club for another year.”
