The Gold Coast Titans have parted ways with veteran coach Des Hasler after two difficult seasons, confirming Josh Hannay as his replacement on a deal through to the end of 2028.

Hasler arrived on the Gold Coast in 2024 with hopes of sparking a turnaround, but results never materialised. Across his 46 matches in charge, the Titans managed just 13 wins, while conceding over 600 points in each of the past two seasons. The defensive struggles and lack of consistency ultimately brought his tenure to an end despite his decorated coaching career at Manly and Canterbury.

In his place, Hannay steps into his first full-time NRL head coaching role. The 45-year-old has previously served as an interim coach on two occasions, first with the North Queensland Cowboys in 2020, where he won two of 10 matches, and later with the Cronulla Sharks in 2021, finishing with eight wins from 19 matches. Hannay has since been highly regarded as an assistant coach, building his reputation as a mentor of younger players and a steady presence in the box.

The Titans confirmed Hannay has signed a contract that will see him lead the side until at least the end of the 2028 NRL season, giving him a rare long-term runway to build the club into a consistent contender.

With a core of promising juniors and State of Origin representatives, the Titans’ board is backing Hannay to reshape the team’s defensive steel and overall resilience – two areas that proved costly under Hasler’s watch.

Last week it was reported the Titans granted permission for David Fifita to negotiate with other clubs.
