Castleford Tigers have confirmed that assistant coach Danny McGuire has departed the club with immediate effect, ending a short tenure at The Jungle.

McGuire joined Castleford ahead of the 2024 season as part of Craig Lingard’s new-look coaching staff. However, less than a year into the head coach role, the former Leeds Rhinos great has stepped away from his position amid ongoing changes at the club.

In a brief statement released by the Tigers, the club thanked McGuire for his contribution and wished him well for the future. No official reason was given for the exit, though it comes at a time when Castleford continue to struggle at the bottom of the Super League ladder and speculation swirls around broader structural changes within the football department.

McGuire, 42, is widely regarded as one of the most decorated players of the Super League era, having won eight Grand Finals with Leeds. Since retiring in 2019, he transitioned into coaching with Hull KR, serving as interim head coach in 2022 before linking up with Castleford.

While there’s no word yet on his next move, McGuire’s coaching future will be closely watched, particularly with several Super League clubs expected to undergo staff reshuffles in the off-season.

Chris Chester will be the interim head coach in the meantime.

Castleford will now reassess their football staff structure as they look to finish the 2025 season on a positive note.
