Rugby league is set to bid farewell to two of its toughest competitors, with Chris Hill and Michael McIlorum both confirming their retirements.

Chris Hill – 21 Years of Service

At 37 years old, Chris Hill has decided to hang up his boots after an incredible 21-year career. The tireless forward has represented England 37 times and pulled on the Great Britain jersey 4 times, cementing his status as one of the sport’s finest props of the modern era.

Hill’s club career is nothing short of remarkable. He amassed 520 appearances in total:

  • 160 for Leigh Leopards (where it all began)
  • 296 for Warrington Wolves
  • 51 for Huddersfield Giants
  • 13 for Salford Red Devils in his final season

Along the way, Hill lifted the Challenge Cup twice with Warrington in 2012 and 2019, etching his name into Wolves folklore.

Michael McIlorum – To Call Time in 2025

Meanwhile, Hull Kingston Rovers hooker Michael McIlorum has confirmed he will retire at the end of the 2025 season. Another warrior of the game, McIlorum has racked up 387 senior appearances, split between:

  • 242 with Wigan Warriors
  • 130 with Catalans Dragons
  • 15 with Hull KR so far

On the international stage, McIlorum has been a fierce competitor, representing Ireland 6 times and England 9 times. His career honours list is impressive:

  • Two Super League titles (2010, 2013) with Wigan
  • Four Challenge Cup triumphs (2011, 2013, 2018, 2025)

End of an Era

Both Hill and McIlorum leave behind a legacy of toughness, leadership, and loyalty to the sport. Fans across the game will salute two men who gave everything on the pitch.

As the rugby league community prepares to celebrate their incredible contributions, it’s clear that their names will be remembered for decades to come.
