MATCHDAY PREVIEW

Friday night will see the Gold Coast Titans take on the Manly Sea Eagles in a game that is a must-win for both sides.

The Titans were woeful in round 14 against the Broncos, down 28-nil at halftime. They scored three tries in the second half, but by then, it was too little, too late for the Titans. Des Hasler has a side on paper that could be in the top eight, but instead, they are not fulfilling their potential. If they are any hope of playing finals football and saving Hasler’s career, they need to go on a run now.

Over the last three weeks, the Sea Eagles have lost to opposition they should have beaten. They defeated a Broncos side in that period who are not travelling well this year. Last week against the Knights, the Sea Eagles got out to a 16-nil lead before the Knights made a comeback, forcing the game into Golden Point and winning. Sea Eagles teams of the past wouldn’t have let that happen, and Anthony Seibold will be disappointed that his side gave up a lead to lose the game.

The Titans will be without both Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and Moeaki Fotuaika due to their commitments to the Origin series. Klese Haas has been named at lock. Iszac Fa’asumaleaui has been named on the bench. Josh Paterson, who plays in the back row, has been named to make his debut from the bench. Sam Verrills, who has been out with a hand injury, has been named as a reserve.

For the Sea Eagles, Tom Trbojevic makes his return from a thigh injury. Winger Jason Saab returns from illness. Siosiua Taukeiaho returns from a calf injury in the front row. Jazz Tevaga moves from lock to the bench. Toafofoa Sipley moves from the bench to 18th Man. Lehi Hopoate is out due to concussion protocols.

This game presents a good opportunity for the Sea Eagles to get back on track and return to their winning ways. Halfback Daly Cherry-Evans has not been named in the Maroons side, so he will be there to lead his side. The Sea Eagles have the advantage in this game, as they have a host of players returning and no one missing due to Origin commitments. Of course, they are missing Lehi Hopoate through injury, but they have a team strong enough to beat the Titans.

The Titans, on the other hand, have an uphill battle. They are missing two key forwards due to Origin, so it will be up to Jaimin Joliffe and Regan Campbell-Gillard to lay the platform. They still have creative halves in Jayden Campbell and Kieran Foran, and a dynamite fullback in AJ Brimson. I also can’t forget Alofiana Khan-Pereira, so scoring points shouldn’t be a problem. Stopping the Sea Eagles from scoring points will be the task. Will the Titans be up for the challenge? We will find out on Friday night.

MATCHDAY PREDICTION
