MATCHDAY PREVIEW
Nearly halfway through the season, both the Eels and the Dolphins find themselves languishing near the bottom of the ladder. Each will be desperate to turn their season around with a much-needed win this round.
The Eels’ most recent match was a frustrating affair where the bounce of the ball simply didn’t fall their way. Despite the loss, their attack was electric and once again highlighted the immense value Mitchell Moses brings to the side. The only change this week sees Matt Doorey return, replacing the injured Sam Tuvaiti.
A major bright spark has been Josh Addo-Carr. The veteran flyer has added a clinical edge to the Eels’ attack not seen since the days of Blake Ferguson. With seven tries in six appearances this season, Addo-Carr’s trademark speed and finishing ability have given the Eels a genuine weapon on the flanks.
The Dolphins are coming off their second consecutive loss — this time to the Roosters. Their season has been one of fluctuating form, mixing strong performances with disappointing fade-outs. This week, they welcome back experienced enforcer Felise Kaufusi and Kurt Donoghoe, pushing Mark Nicholls and Oryn Keeley to the bench.
Last week, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow was a standout in a losing side. With 162 running metres and two tries, “The Hammer” continues to showcase blistering pace and positional intelligence. Against an Eels pack that has shown signs of defensive fatigue late in games, his ability to sniff out a tired defender could prove game-breaking.
This clash may well come down to which speedster has the greater influence — Addo-Carr or Tabuai-Fidow. Both are capable of turning half-chances into highlight reel tries. Statistically, there’s little separating these sides. But with the Parramatta crowd behind them and Moses calling the shots, the Eels might just have the edge they need.
