North Queensland’s pack has secured one of its most promising talents, with Griffin Neame signing a new deal that keeps him at the Cowboys until the end of the 2029 NRL season.
The Kiwi international, who has been a key part of the Cowboys’ forward rotation since debuting in 2021, has now played 89 NRL games for the club. His re-signing comes as North Queensland prepares for a new era in their engine room, following the retirement of veteran prop Jordan McLean at the end of the 2025 campaign.
At just 24 years old, Neame has already built a reputation for his tough carries, defensive work rate, and consistency in big moments. The extended deal is a show of faith from coach Todd Payten and the Cowboys’ football department, who view Neame as a cornerstone of their middle forward rotation over the coming years.
Neame represented New Zealand at international level in 2023 and is expected to be a major contributor for the Kiwis heading into the next Rugby League World Cup cycle.
He was unavailable for the Pacific Championships after suffering a shoulder injury in round 22 against the Sharks.
With McLean’s departure and Reuben Cotter’s growing leadership influence, Neame’s long-term commitment adds stability and experience to a Cowboys pack that continues to evolve.
