Newcastle Knights have confirmed the signing of Trey Mooney from the Canberra Raiders on a four-year contract beginning in the 2026 NRL season.

Mooney, 23, has been part of Canberra’s system since debuting in 2022, making 25 NRL appearances to date. His most recent outing came in the Raiders’ 62–24 defeat to the Dolphins at Kayo Stadium. The Green Machine had granted the young prop permission to explore opportunities with rival clubs, opening the door for Newcastle’s move.

This is a powerful addition to their forward pack, bringing size, energy and room to develop across the long-term deal. The signing fits with Newcastle’s strategy of investing in emerging forwards to build depth and resilience for the seasons ahead.

For Mooney, the switch provides a chance to establish himself as a regular first-grade starter after four seasons of limited opportunities in Canberra’s middle rotation.
