Leeds send St Helens to their third straight loss at Magic Weekend in Newcastle.

Round 10 Results

Leigh Leopards 26- 24 Catalans Dragons

A cracking game that went down to the wire with Leigh pegging back and early Catalans lead and then stretching out to an eight-point lead of their own. Only to concede with just over 10 minutes to go and old off a late comeback stoked by Luke Keary in a tense finish to the game.

Hull Kingston Rovers 54-0 Salford Red Devils

An unsurprising result for Salford this year – who’s woes now clearly extend over both the on and off-field facets of the club. The Robins, on the other hand, exhibited clinical attack and some entertaining celebrations along with it, including the Griddy from Peta Hiku and what appeared to be a tribute to Alan Shearer from local Sam Luckley (who fulfilled his dream of scoring at St James’ Park). Noah Booth made it a weekend to remember with a try on debut while Jez Litten scored two along with Artur Morgue as the Robins left the toon smiling.

St Helens RLFC 4-17 Leeds Rhinos

A tough representation of both sides – a far cry from their respective former glories – with Leeds showing the better spark of the two to get the win in one of the less entertaining games of the Magic Weekend.

That said, Morgan Gannon excelled for the victors by putting in a perfect kick for Riley Lumb to cross for the first try of the game and crossing for the match sealing try on the 77-minute mark himself, either side of a clinical Lachlan Miller four-pointer accompanied by a spiderman celebration. All the meaningful action occurred on that same edge, with Matt Whiteley scoring a good solo effort of his own with a cracking line and good feint to score St Helens’ sole points for the game.

Huddersfield Giants 12-10 Hull FC

A defensively minded affair that sparked into life with a trio of cards just before half time; George Burgess first with a shot off the ball, before Sam Eseh was sent for 10 for a high shot (after which tensions rose), and Liam Knight was sent off for a shoulder charge on the ensuing carry off the Sam Eseh penalty.

Leroy Cudjoe broke the deadlock 27-minutes in to the match with an impressive solo effort through the middle, before Herman Ese’ese got one back through the middle to cut the score to margin to two points (8-6). It looked as though Hull would score again through Cade Cust – when a man up after the Burgess yellow – only for George Flanagan to make an excellent try saving tackle.

Following the half time break, Huddersfield appeared to be in control and the more likely to score with a man advantage (two for a few minutes) for the rest of the game. They went ahead with a great cut out ball from Adam Clune to Jacob Gagai, but FC replied soon after to bring the lead back to two (12-10) before a stalemate til the final whistle that included a back-to-back-to-back set assault on the Huddersfield line from the Black and Whites.

Wigan Warriors 22-20 Warrington Wolves

A replay of the Vegas game, Warrington produced a far better performance this time round. Though Wigan led from the front with Jai Field crossing to open the scoring, before Bevan French scored a try in which Chris Kendall accidentally obstructed – likely to little effect – a Warrington defender to potentially aid French’s run in.

Warrington answered back through Matt Dufty, however, and it was neck and neck when Warrington got another back through Roderick Tai. Another pair of Wigan tried in the second half pretty much sealed it by putting them 12 ahead with 10 minutes to go (22-10), but soon Warrington made a late comeback with two tries in as many minutes – though without finding the vital touchline conversion to send it to golden point.

Castleford Tigers 8-32 Wakefield Trinity

Wakefield built on their derby win two rounds prior and demolished their rivals this time round. Wakefield went up by 12 early but at the back end of the half Josh Simm produced a good finish to beat multiple men and grab a try back for Castleford. Similarly, Trinity winger Lachlan Walmsley exhibited excellent finishing to ensure Wakefield went into the half time break ahead at 16-4 and the same amount of damage was done in the second half with Tom Johnstone grabbing a try of his own before Walmsley landed another acrobatic finish. The try of the game, however, came from the revelatory signing Caius Faatili – who ran 70m and beat multiple defenders (including fullback Tex Hoy) to score his second try under the sticks.

Castleford Tigers: 1. Tex Hoy, 3. Zac Cini, 4. Sam Wood, 5. Innes Senior, 6. Daejarn Asi, 7. Rowan Milnes, 9. Liam Horne, 10. George Lawler, 12. Alex Mellor, 13. Joe Westerman, 14. Judah Rimbu, 15.
