Canberra Raiders final bye (40 points, +168) kept them in first place, followed by Melbourne Storm (38, +252), Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs (36, +120), and the New Zealand Warriors (32, +12). Penrith Panthers (31, +115), Brisbane Broncos (30, +114), Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks (30, +67), and the Sydney Roosters (28, +92) rounded out the top eight.

Melbourne moved closer to the minor premiership after beating Penrith at CommBank Stadium. There was plenty of drama in the final few minutes of regulation time. With the game tied 18-18, Nathan Cleary had a one-point field goal overturned when Moses Leota was penalised for blocking Harry Grant, while Cleary’s two other field goal shots were blocked. Grant sealed the win one minute into Golden Point: with Melbourne setting up for a field goal shot from 10 metres out, Grant dummied and went through the gap to score, breaking Penrith’s nine-game winning run. Xavier Coates scored another try double as Melbourne came from 12-4 down, including a 45-metre intercept try off a loose Blaize Talagi pass, though Casey McLean nearly stopped Coates from scoring. GAME BREAKER: Grant’s heads-up play during Golden Point: with the focus on a potential field goal attempt, he sold the dummy and sealed the win with a try.

Daniel Tupou (three) and Naufahu Whyte (two) scored five tries between them as the Sydney Roosters beat Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Allianz Stadium. White’s second try and Tupou’s second and third tries put the game away as the Roosters built on a 14-6 half-time lead. GAME BREAKER: Tupou’s hat-trick brought him level with Xavier Coates and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (18 tries) in the race for the Ken Irvine Medal.

The New Zealand Warriors climbed back in the top four after beating St George Illawarra Dragons at Go Media Stadium. It was a much-needed win after losing three in a row, including their last two home games, and puts them one point ahead of fifth-placed Penrith. Adam Pompey scored two tries in the second half to seal the win. It was the Dragons’ 10th loss by eight points or less this season, despite Mathew Feagai’s first half double, and they lost three players to head knocks in the first half (Jake de Belin, Hamish Stewart, and Hame Sele). GAME BREAKER: After poor defensive games against the Titans and Bulldogs, the Warriors kept the Dragons scoreless for 58 minutes as Pompey’s two tries erased the Dragons’ 10-0 lead.

Brisbane moved closer to the top four after winning the Battle of Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium. Infront of over 40,000 fans, Trai Fuller and Jeremy Marshall-King gave The Dolphins a 28-14 lead early in the second half. But Brisbane scored the next four tries to regain the lead, with a double to Kotoni Staggs. It’s the Broncos’ fifth win in six Battle of Brisbane games (including a 20-12 win in round 4 this season). GAME BREAKER: Reece Walsh’s 40/20 in the 52nd minute ignited Brisbane’s comeback, with Deine Mariner scoring off the next set. Walsh finished with 18 points (a try and seven goals), showing why he’s one of the NRL’s most exciting players.

  • Nicholas Hynes scored 22 points (two tries and seven goals) in Cronulla’s win over the Gold Coast at Sharks Stadium. Ronaldo Mulitalo and Sione Katoa also scored doubles.
  • Tallis Duncan scored two tries as South Sydney beat Parramatta at Allianz Stadium. Zac Lomax scored 12 points (two tries and two goals) for the Eels.
  • Adam Doueihi scored 14 points (one try and five goals) as the Wests Tigers beat Manly Warringah Sea Eagles at Allianz Stadium.
  • Scott Drinkwater scored 22 points (two tries and seven goals) as North Queensland beat Newcastle at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
