MATCHDAY PREVIEW

Cameron Ciraldo’s men picked up where they left off last season and will be hoping to improve against the Gold Coast Titans at Belmore on Sunday.

The Bulldogs hit a 28-6 lead in the second half last week; however some lapses in concentration saw the Dragons score three unanswered tries to close the margin drastically, something Ciraldo would not be happy with.

The Titans will be keen to get their season started after a round 1 bye, with the likes of David Fifita and Preston Campbell on deck. Their Pre-Season Challenge form was mixed (playing both games with near-full strength sides): a 50-12 loss to Brisbane and a 26-18 win over the Dolphins. Though the Dolphins win was overshadowed by Kieran Foran’s biceps tear, which sees him out for 12 weeks.

This is a danger game for both sides. The Titans have an extremely quick and skilful backline and with David Fifita at full strength and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui returning from injury it wouldn’t come as a surprise if they hit the ground running.

On the flip side, the last time these two faced off at Belmore it was a 32-0 drubbing to the home side. The Bulldogs also won their round 22 game at Belmore, beating Canberra 22-18.

If the Bulldogs show up with the same attitude and defensive resolve they should get the job done. But the Titans, who many have tipped to finish last, will want to make a statement.

MATCHDAY PREDICTION

Bulldogs by 18 points.
