MATCHDAY PREVIEW
The prey are out to become the predator, as the Rabbitohs attempt to turn the tables on the premiership heavyweight Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon, with Accor Stadium being the hunting ground. These two sides have a storied history dating back to 1935: this clash may look lopsided on the ladder but expect neither side to be taking this opportunity lightly to get one over their fellow Sydney-siders.
The Bulldogs walked out of their last clash with a dominant 32-0 performance earlier this year (Good Friday), and despite a few outs on Origin duty, will be confident that they have the troops to repeat this performance. South Sydney have lost their last two on the trot and face quite the uphill battle if they want to arrest this form slump and get back into the winners circle against a side that have still only lost two games as we pass the halfway point of the season.
The Rabbitohs have only one player slated for an Origin berth, but Latrell Mitchell’s absence in this side cannot be understated. While he may not be the most high volume fullback in the comp, his ability to step up in key moments and execute is unmatched. On the flip side, his replacement Jye Gray is a non-stop ball of energy that brings an entirely different attacking threat and his constant presence around the ruck could cause some problems for the Bulldogs if his forwards are able to pop some offloads to the diminutive flyer.
The Bulldogs fans will get to see how Lachlan Galvin goes in his first start for the club following his mid-season switch and he partners the man whose number seven jersey he is gunning for in Toby Sexton. Galvin scored a try on debut, but outside of that had limited impact in his 20-minute stint, and will want to show the Bulldogs faithful how much more he can offer the premiership heavyweights; Sexton will be doing everything he can to hold on to his jersey despite the writing seemingly being on the wall for the 24-year-old.
The Bunnies are missing Cody Walker and Mitchell for this clash, but they have Campbell Graham sitting on the extended bench, while the Bulldogs are missing Origin quartet Max King, Stephen Crichton, Kurt Mann, and Matt Burton. But it’s not all doom and gloom for the Bulldogs as they welcome back Jacob Preston. The Rabbitohs have the advantage in recent history, winning seven of their last 10 clashes against the Bulldogs.
