MATCHDAY PREVIEW
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs will host the Parramatta Eels in a highly anticipated round 14 clash at Accor Stadium on Monday.
This King’s Birthday fixture is expected to draw a massive crowd, well surpassing the 45,496 attendees from last year’s encounter between these rivals.
All eyes are on 19-year-old prodigy Lachlan Galvin, who recently signed a 3.5-year deal with the Bulldogs after departing the Wests Tigers. Despite the media frenzy surrounding his mid-season move, Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo has emphasised a merit-based selection approach.
Galvin has been named in the 22-man squad and could make his debut off the bench, adding versatility to the team’s spine. But his impact won’t win or lose the game.
The Bulldogs welcome back their missing Origin stars, and winger Jacob Kiraz, in a huge boost for a team looking to make amends for a big loss a fortnight ago.
The Eels have shown signs of improvement, particularly with the return of star halfback Mitchell Moses from injury. His leadership and playmaking abilities have been pivotal in recent performances, providing a much-needed boost to the team’s dynamics. Their form is far better than their ladder position reflects.
Winger Zac Lomax has also impressed, arguably the best on field in State of Origin Game 1. His battle with Marcel Montoya will be fascinating given their contrast in playing styles.
The Eels forward pack has gone from strength-to-strength in recent weeks, particularly prop Jack Williams.
Parramatta leads the head-to-head (since 1998) 28-25 with one draw, while Canterbury won their most recent clash in round 3 this season (16-8)
Given the Bulldogs’ strong form this season and the potential impact of returning players, they are poised to edge out the Eels in a closely contested match.
