MATCHDAY PREVIEW
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs will host the Sydney Roosters at Accor Stadium in Sydney, with the ladder leaders looking to make it 9-1 heading into the start of the State of Origin period.
The Bulldogs have been in exceptional form to have suffered just one loss, highlighted by last week’s stunning come-from-behind victory in Canberra (winning the second half 32-0). Their defense has been particularly noteworthy, consistently shutting down opposing offences.
The Roosters have had an inconsistent season, with a 4-5 record placing them in the middle of the ladder. While they’ve shown flashes of brilliance, such as a 46-18 Anzac Day victory over the Dragons, they’ve also suffered heavy losses, including a 50-14 defeat to the Broncos at the start of the year, though they come in fresh off their first bye last weekend.
In recent encounters at Accor Stadium, the Bulldogs have had the upper hand, winning their last two meetings against the Roosters at this venue. This home-ground advantage could play a pivotal role in Friday’s clash, especially with a big blue and white crowd expected.
Given the Bulldogs’ current form and home advantage, they are poised to continue their winning streak, although a stack of injuries and suspensions in the forwards sees Luke Smith debut this week. Jaeman Salmon’s eventful afternoon in Canberra ended with an ankle injury that sees him out for 10 weeks. Lindsay Collins returns on the bench for the Roosters – his first game since round 5 – and will be looking impress enough for an Origin call up.
While the Roosters have the talent to challenge, the Bulldogs’ consistency and defensive strength give them the edge.
MATCHDAY PREDICTION
